Becoming more sustainable is not a straightforward road. There is still a long way to go for us on our sustainability journey, but we have taken a big leap by changing our main processes and products. Here among an increase in the use of more sustainable fibres to using more ECO-friendly printing methods and creating efficient waste management in our value chain.
Deliberate sustainable choices
Starting with our core, we are replacing the conventional composition of our Essentials collection with more sustainable fibres in each product. An action only contributing to the longevity of the classic styles, designed to last and stand the test of time.
“We have made deliberate sustainable choices in each product within our ‘Essentials’ collection. Wherever possible, we have utilized and increased the use of sustainable fibres without compromising price and quality.”
— Steen Engelbrecht, CEO & Partner, Minimum
Moving forward, we are committed to increasing the percentage of the more sustainable fibres used in our four seasonal collections.
Our organic cotton is farmed and grown without any use of chemicals, pesticides, and defoliants. The use of GMO's are also prohibited in organic cotton. this means that organic cotton is much better for the farmers as they are not exposed to any of these toxic chemicals, as well as they are much healthier for you and the environment.
Our recycled polyester is made from recycled materials such as pet plastic bottles. The pre-used bottles are washed, sorted by colour, cut into small flakes, melted down, and spun into new filament yarns. When we produce 1 kg recycled polyester, we recycle 40 plastic bottles. it reduces co2 emissions by 75%, saves 86% water and uses 70% less energy, compared to virgin polyester.
Our recycled cotton is made in india with yarn scraps from spinning mills. The scraps are derived from disposed garment cut-offs. By producing our garments of partly recycled cotton, we limit the use of water, chemicals and energy.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are made from wood pulp, coming from certified forests. Derived from natural raw material it results in significant energy savings to the production, due to low levels of chemicals and water usage. The material is produced in a closed loop system, reusing the water and solvent repeatedly. When refined into garments, the material has a breathable and cooling effect, gentle to the skin. TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibers are our more sustainable. The material is obtained by using renewable wood sources derived from LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibres are certified with the EU ecolabel. Compared to conventional viscose, it lowers Co2 emissions and water usage by 50%. LENZING™ and ECOVERO™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.
Cradle to Cradle™ and FSC-certified
All wooden interior, paper and packaging we use as part of running our business are either FSC-certified or derived from recycled sources. When printing POS and sales materials, we print with Cradle to Cradle™ certified print colours free from harmful chemicals or heavy metals.
We strive to uphold a holistic approach to sustainability with responsible actions taken in every corner of our business. This also applies for how we design and operate our offices and showrooms. We power our headquarters with wind energy and we are constantly developing our waste management system and recycling processes in the value chain. This, with a promise of never destroying or burning unsold products.
